Dykes R-Us moving company report

The moving company got it's name when Holly and Star helped our friend Marcus move a few years ago, and made an appearance again for Doc and Maggie's move.

Packing started in June and heated up as the move grew closer

Thanks to the Box Accumulation Crew (Holly, Zinzow, Don & Mary, Picadilli, and Lisa Murphy). Major packing assistance came from Holly and Dawn.

Friday noon

Picked up the rental truck, everyone thought that 24' was way to big...Ended up with 16 movers on the C/U end - when were done the doors just cleared the handtruck that was the last thing in Took about 3 1/2 hours to load the truck

Friday 5pm

Hit the road - Jack and Pooch in the Van, Star following

Friday 10pm

Headlights kept shorting out - just outside St. Louis spent about 3 hours at rest stop waiting for repair person to get there and fix it. A fully loaded truck averages 50 mph on a good day. About 60 mph down a steep hill and about 40mph uphill - some hills we got to 70 downhill but only 20 uphill -

Saturday 9am

Arrive Lawrence, shower and breakfast - we are all pretty slap happy by now. (In minneapolis terms it is now 9qm - that is the designation after am - pm - qm)

Saturday 12rm (noon)

Folks show up to unload the truck - had about 14 folks on the Lawrence end. Haveing two doors (door and patio door) and no steps made it quicker and only took 1 1/2 hours to unload. (Jack sits down and passes out with people walking over him)

Eat, move enough stuff to find futon

Saturday 7rm

SLEEP!!!!!!! 13 hours of sleep is a wonderous thing!

Sunday

Find coffee maker, start unpacking Video cabinet is set up and filled, Kitchen is set up we have access to all the furniture thru the box maze. Had dinner wtih a friend Jon at a Sushi place in KC (about 45 minutes away)

Monday

Bookcase goes up. Wow do we have a lot of books. Get storage locker to keep boxes and the things we don't need for a while.

Tuesday

Waterbed goes up. Small world syndrome - we needed to get a new decking for our waterbed, and ended up just getting a new one (using our liner and heater and such) We got it from someone originally from C/U that new someone I went to church with. The bed is from Lincoln Square!

Dinner at Don's steak house for Pooch's birthday - all you can eat pork ribs.

Wednesday

Stereo put together, Trip to campus to fill out paperwork. Jack fixes stereo (Amp wasn't working)

Thursday

Star's computer gets put together!!! Star gets staff ID Card and parking permit. Jack the wonder brother takes load of stuff to storage locker in his trailer.

Nominate Jack for sainthood!

Friday (Goal)

New drivers licenes and plates.
