I lived in CU from August 1996 to July 1999 I now live in Lawrence, Kansas
It took me about a year to find friends and community in C/U so hopefully this will give others like me a headstart. If you are new to C/U and want intros drop me an email.

Unitarian Universalist Church of Champaign-Urbana

I was Co-Chair of Interweave who has a great GLBT Community Resource List
Outpost GLBT Community Center has since closed
I was volunteer of the month in Febuary of 1998.
PolyCU local polyamory social/support group
had me as their fearless leader for a while
Rainbow Coffee House is volunteer run
Tuesdays 5:30-9:30 (School session only) at Wesley Foundation, at the corner of Green and Goodwin with an entrance off of Goodwin, snacks, drinks, and conversation with lgbtqa folks from campus and the community.
PC Users Group is a good place to get questions answers by a group of geeks
SCA is a great group of folks though I only show up at labeling parties
TBC meetings was another place to find me

Mix 94.5 is where I listen to Popeye & Marge on my way to work.
Parkland College Theatre is one of my favorite showhouses in C/U.
I was very impressed with Man of La Mancha - February 1998
Krannert has many plays and preformances.
Saw the Kodo Drums there! WOW! With a felxible series plan prices can be quite reasonable.
Assembly Hall hosts nationally touring events,
I tend to not go because it is hard to see from most seats, bring opera glasses.
Community Education classes offer things like cooking, art, and how to play pool.

Allerton park is a wonderful place to spend the day

RAD of East-Central IL Self Defence for Women class is a good thing to take, my friend Holly teaches it sometimes
